The Company Background

Taylor’s University is a privately-owned institution located in Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. It has consistently been recognized as one of Malaysia’s leading private universities based on its impressive ranking in the QS World University Rankings. Established in 1969 as a college, it attained the status of a university college in 2006, and later upgraded to full university status in 2010.

The Challenge

Taylor’s University Sdn Bhd endeavors to minimize maintenance costs for its current server, storage, and security devices/tools. Additionally, the aim is to simplify the tech refresh process when products reach their end-of-life stage. This will lead to reduced complexity and ensure smooth operations by minimizing hardware monitoring and asset tracking, as well as reducing activities related to server/storage firmware updates or patches.

Solutions from G-AsiaPacific

G-AsiaPacific is a valued partner of Taylor’s University Sdn Bhd. They provide guidance on suitable solutions and assist with instance and service provisioning. Following several discussions, G-asiaPacific has provided us with a solution involving Compute services and a Web Application Firewall on the AWS platform, which aligns with our plan to migrate independent web services to AWS. We are pleased to report that some of the services have been successfully migrated.

The Outcome

The results are positive! Taylor’s University has successfully set up microsites for its university and college under the Marketing Department, as well as independent website services under the Learning Innovation and Development Department on AWS.

Why Amazon Web Service

Taylor’s University Sdn Bhd opted for Amazon Web Services due to its cost-effectiveness, as its instances and services operate on a subscription and activation basis. Additionally, AWS offers the advantage of flexibility in instance provisioning and hardware resource scaling, allowing customers to avoid concerns regarding host resource availability.

Amazon Web Services provides affordable services suitable for businesses of all sizes, ranging from startups to enterprises with heavy traffic. Moreover, AWS offers the benefit of flexibility, as there is no commitment or contract to lock into. Therefore, when a service or storage from a server is terminated, billing stops immediately. This capability enables Taylor’s University to scale resources as needed, resulting in cost savings.
